Built in the 1860s, The Gatehouse is a fine example of 19th century Italianate architecture. It stands at the entrance to the historic Mayday Hills complex - over 150 ha of former hospital buildings and picturesque parkland, featuring a significant collection of mature exotic and native trees.
Visitors can stroll around the heritage gardens, play tennis on the nearby courts and cricket/football on the adjacent oval. The George Kerferd Hotel, with its restaurant and wine bar is located only a short stroll through the gardens in the Mayday Hills precinct.
The Gatehouse is only 500 metres from the centre of the historic gold mining town of Beechworth, with its specialty shops, cafes and fine restaurants.
